My Disembodied Experience and the Neural Net

Before I start this post, I have to say the model for this blog is likely to be random, sometimes containing responses to things occurring in the here and now and other times having seemingly no reference to things that may be found in the ongoing perceptions of those who may find themselves reading it.

This particular post centers around some random thoughts I've been dwelling on. Thoughts that have developed over time within my ever-present self-analysis. It has to do with my vision of the ultimate Utopian state of a future cyborg culture and how I developed this vision in relation to my life experience. As a transwoman, I often, since I have not completed transition feel as though what I understand to be myself is, in a way, disembodied. That is not to say that I am experiencing dissociative symptoms but rather that my self, as conceived by me, lacks a physical presence in the world that is congruent with it. As such I have often, in my personal relationships (whether in love or friendship) desired to be intensely close to others, to break down barriers commonly held between my self, and the self of others, in a way, to achieve a level of experienced unity of selves. Often, of course, the nature of reality prevents this, but I nonetheless strive for it, I tend to think striving for unattainable goals it what moves us forward. When I look at this desire I see that is it clearly related to my feelings of lacking a physical avatar as it were; I wish to communicate with people on a level that allows them to experience and understand the envisioned form of myself that is most real to me.

That said, when it comes to the possibilities of the neural net, this sort of unity of selves, the instantaneous communication of shared thought, is to me, the central and key beneficial factor of the technology. By way of such, we can share things about ourselves that physical reality and cultural restrictions prevent, coming to better understandings of one another and fulfilling a sort of technological mimicry of a degree of the sort of moksa (enlightenment) that's discussed in Advaita Vedanta (hindu spiritual philosophy that centers around the experience of unity with everything - the universal deity, Brahma - "universal oneness").

In any regards, tracing this interesting origin of my Utopian notions exposes the fact that such an experience, such a use of neural net technologies, should they ever be developed, is one that has its roots in a particular lived and cultural context. Perhaps the Advaita Vedanta Hindus and other-gendered persons of the world could unite to promote a culture that would foster such use.

Any comments are welcome from anyone and if anyone out there has actually thought about the possibilities that exist with exocortex/neural net technologies to similar degree to myself, I'd be more than willing to hear about them!
